I have read somewhere a Zen quote, can't find the author...which goes something like this; “ Everything ordinary is extraordinary”.
Indeed, everything around us is fantastic. Our mind takes the repetitive events, images, thoughts of the world around and summarizes, familiarizes, narrows them down and thus misses the essential, the magical.
I think art is one way of making us see with new eyes, re-discover details taken for granted in our life which is full of distractions. The skillfully and mindfully executed artwork will engage the viewer's attention and imagination to see what the artist intended to show.
The great gift of Sumi-e is it's simplicity. It allows the viewer to connect with that wonder and stillness, bringing order to complexity and chaos of life.
“The near stillness recalls what is forgotten, extinct angels”. Georg Trakl
